Beyoncé’s vice hold on the world calls for constant speculation. Since releasing her latest, self-titled visual album, Bey has been at the forefront of conversations debating her stance as a role model for young girls.

In quite a spirited debate between former governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee, and Daily Show host, Jon Stewart, the two argued on Beyoncé’s impact to the culture.

“Beyonce is such a mega-talent. She can do anything,” Huckabee said while discussing the “culture of crude” chapter in his book God, Guns, Grits, and Gravy. “She doesn’t have to be vulgar in order to set the trend. Do you know any parent who has a daughter who says, ‘Honey, if you make really good grades, someday when you’re 12 or 13 we’ll get you your own stripper pole?'”

In rebuttal to Huckabee’s views, Stewart pointed out the former governor’s cultural “blind spot.” The late night host showed a clip of Huckabee performing “Cat Scratch Fever” with Ted Nugent. A relatively crude song in nature.

“Do you see my point?,” Stewart asked. “You excuse that type of crudeness because you agree with his stance on firearms. You don’t approve of Beyonce because she seems alien to you.”

Hukabee attempted to defend Nugent by explaining that he was never nominated for a Grammy for “Cat Scratch Fever” and that his song is geared to adults.

“You can’t single out a corrosive culture and ignore the one that you live in because you’re used to it,” Stewart responded.

Watch the two battle it out in their exchange above.
