Even though Martin Luther King Jr. passed away many decades ago, his legacy is still being carried out by many of those who believe in it strongly today. One of those who is practicing many of his activist teachings is rapper Common.

The Source has decided to present the Nobody’s Smiling MC with their own MLK Acknowledgement Award for all that he has contributed and promoted to the culture over the years, and he has stayed true to bringing out the best light that he can in the youth.

The site stated on the award:

Common utilizes his abilities a la your favorite super hero. For example, his lyrical ability to shed light on the situation in Fegurson and Selma, or even “A Song for Assata”issues that often fall on deaf ears–provides more awareness and knowledge on each subject.

After his role in the ground-breaking film Selma, winning a Golden Globe for his song “Glory” with John Legend, and participating in bringing awareness to racial injustices, it’s no wonder the outlet awarded Common with the acknowledgement.

Congratulations on his continued success.
