Bicketing: The Grammys Don’t Get It

Let’s face it, the folks sitting in the office of the Grammys headquarters don’t get why hip-hop fans are upset. As it stands, their list of nominees in all categories make perfect sense. But they forget that we aren’t living in a perfect world. The weight of choosing the “right” artists or albums to be nominated is a weighted task of which they may never satisfy every fan, but the nominations should at least make sense.

According to the Grammys official website, nominations must satisfy a list of eligibility requirements and receive votes by distinguished, professional voters who are made up of songwriters, music video artists, album notes writers etc. Even after satisfying the requirements of releasing an album between Oct. 1, 2013 and Sept. 30, 2014, YG – who many believe deserved a Grammy nod or two – received nothing but perhaps an invitation to fill a seat in the audience.

How Sway?

For YG, this is a deliberate slap in the face – sound effects and all. The west coast MC isn’t keeping quiet on his opinions of the matter either. In a conversation with Big Boy’s Neighborhood, the “Right, Left” rapper voiced his views as to why he didn’t make the cut.

“My album is better than them albums,” he said. “I know it got something to do with me being from the streets and representing what I represent and talking about what I talk about on these records but the Grammy people gotta know, I’m the people’s champ and I’m the people’s people.”
