Timbaland kept it “one hunnid” while sitting down with The Breakfast Club this morning, as he spoke on everything from his relationship with Justin Timberlake, to his reaction to the controversial  Aaliyah movie.

Timbaland, who recently visited the crew with his new artist Tink, came back to talk about his music, how he maneuvers with a younger audience, his role in the new Fox series Empire, as well as his outlook on his famous friends, life, and success. When asked about his some of his favorite artist to work with, Timbaland says Missy Elliott and Justin Timberlake are like his family, and that when they work together, it’s magical. On famous friends like Jay Z, Timbaland says that “Jay Z is a true testament to ‘don’t judge a book by its cover.’ He is smartest man I know.”

Timbaland didn’t hold back, and kept it real when commenting on radio hits and hip-hop of today saying, “people don’t judge music anymore.” Timbaland also wasn’t shy on speaking on his rough patch in 2012. He remarked that “the industry thought I wasn’t hot. The world didn’t think that but the industry did.” However by 2015, Timbaland, whose long list of number one hits speaks for itself, says he believes he has the tools to come better than ever. “Old records and bass tracks from the 90’s are coming back. It’s the old becoming the new,” he told the hosts.

Timbaland is also doing work outside of the studio with Fox’s new series Empire, which follows the inner workings of the music industry. Timbaland is a guest star on the show and also does scoring. On his relationship with the network, he believes it’s moving in a good direction as he said, “Fox is trying to make a change with Empire. They’re giving us a chance.”

In the interview, Timbaland addressed the Aaliyah biopic, and how social media created more of a backlash for his comments. However, he doesn’t back down on his stance and say the movie was a disappointment by asking, “Why would they do this? This is this girl’s life!”

However despite recent events he is inspired by his new artist Tink and wants to continue to lead a life where wealth is shared. “If you’re in my crew, you’ll get paid.”When you help others, your success keeps going,” Timbaland says.
