According to Jay Z, hip-hop has done more to improve race relations than any of our cultural icons. In a video for the OWN network, Jigga provides his “strong” opinion on the contributions the genre has made in the fight against racism.

“Hip-hop has done more for racial relations than most cultural icons,” he said. “Save Martin Luther King, because his dream speech we realized when President Obama got elected.”

The Brooklynite expanded on his opinion by offering the fact that hip-hop’s influence stretches across nations and religions. Hip-hop can be heard by people of all backgrounds and cultures. “This music didnt’ just influence kids from urban areas, it influenced kids from all around the world.”

Hov wrapped the short video with his belief that racism is taught in the home but it’s hard to teach if a child’s favorite rapper happens to be African-American.

“It’s very difficult to teach racism when your kid looks up to Snoop Doggy Dogg,”

Do you agree with Jay Z?
