Queen Latifah isn’t done gracing our small screens just yet. The multi-talented celeb may not return in the form of a talk show host but will be tackling an even bigger project in the new year.

The rapper-singer-actress will take on the iconic role of blues icon Bessie Smith in a new 2015 HBO film, BESSIE. Executive produced by Latifah, Shakim Compere, Lili Fini Zanuck, Richard D. Zanuck, Shelby Stone and Randi Michel, the star will fill the shoes of the blues singer starting from her humble beginnings to her rise as “The Empress of the Blues.”

BESSIE will be directed by filmmaker Dee Rees who also cowrote the screenplay with Christopher Cleveland and Bettina Gilois. Queen Latifah will be joined by quite the star-studded cast including Michael Kenneth Williams, Khandi Alexander, Mike Epps, Tika Sumpter, Tory Kittles, Oliver Platt, Bryan Greenberg, with Charles S. Dutton and Mo’Nique.
