It’s definitely been a big year for YG, DJ Mustard, and Ty Dolla $ign, and The Source magazine is making sure to give them that recognition.

The hip-hop hit-makers debuted on the magazine’s ‘Men Of The Year’ issue, which was combined with the ‘Rookies Of The Year’ issue, being that the three also matched up in that category.

In the interview, all three of these Pushaz Ink members talk about how they got to be so successful this year. Mustard talked about the process of making beats for some of this year’s hottest tracks:

“That’s what a lot of people don’t understand, like, this is more than producing,” he explains. They don’t understand that this is a full-time job. It’s not like I’m just making a beat and Big Sean happens to stumble into the studio. It’s not like that.” […] “People take it lightly. You gotta grind for what you want and really take it to the next level–it’s a different era. It’s really just [about] changing the sound up, not staying the same.”

YG even reveals an interesting fact about his mother, and why his circle is rival gang-affiliated:

“My momma Crip, she from a Crip neighborhood. I’m the reason why we got Blood n****s and we got Crip n****s in one click–that’s me.”

Ty Dolla $ign also digs deep, and talks about what almost made him give up to getting where he is today:

“I used to produce with this other dude named G Casso, and when he died that f*****d me up. He got killed. He got killed and it f****d me up to where I didn’t even feel like making beats like that, you know, that was another reason why I slowed down.”

These guys definitely dominated 2014, and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2015. Check out the dual covers on the next few pages, and read more quotes here.
