President Obama Declares December 26 a Federal Holiday

When you’re the president you get to do some pretty cool things. Like make up holidays. President Obama made a lot of people across the country happy by declaring Dec. 26, the day after Christmas, a federal holiday.
“All executive branch departments and agencies of the Federal Government shall be closed and their employees excused from duty on Friday, December 26, 2014, the day after Christmas Day,” says the executive order he issues Friday. “Exceptions may be made ‘for reasons of national security, defense, or other public need.'”
It’ll be interesting to see if the rest of the country follows the trend. It could save a lot of people a lot of grief.
Including Santa Claus. Even the jolly man deserves a day off.
Ok I’ll start! December 26, 1862 the day, by orders of US President Abraham Lincoln, 38 Dakota were hung in Mankato MN. THIS DAY WILL BE REMEMBERED IN THEIR HONOR! Thank you President Obama!

Well there is PLENTY of room on the calendar to make a special day for something. It’s also someone’s birthday, someone’s death date, someone’s anniversary, may be graduation, etc., so you can add on the Dakota hangings in Mankato, MN along with December 26th being a federal government holiday now….. play nice and share, it’s not like you have a choice.
it’s also the first day of Kwanzaa 🙂

The US already “enjoys” less time off than virtually every other first world country.
Aren’t you a sad, bitter one. If you want to work on 12/26, then carry the hell on. I’m sure you can go mow someone’s yard for $25 if you’ve got to work that bad.
Another non-productive day. Say, how many days a year do we work now? Let’s see, holiday days off, sick leave days off, personal days off, vacation days off, unpaid days off…… Who covers that cost?
Let’s just make the 40 hr work week, Mon through Thurs (10 hrs a day) and everybody takes off Friday, Sat and Sun, “What the heck”!!!
