The Purple One has left the building. After toying with social media for a year, Prince gracefully bowed out on Tuesday (Nov. 25) shutting down his Twitter handle and Facebook page completely.

His abrupt departure from social media shouldn’t be shocking to fans though. Prince was hardly a fan of social media. In fact, he released more albums in 2014 than he posted comments to Facebook.

After dropping ART OFFICIAL AGE and PLECTRUMELECTRUM in September, the icon attempted to engage his Twitter followers the following month with a three-hour Q&A, which to their disappointment only yielded one response.

In addition to abandoning Facebook and Twitter, Prince’s camp is also removing all of his music from YouTube. The song available on his Vevo account is “Breakfast Can Wait.”

It’s safe to say social media isn’t Prince’s thing, but with 25 albums, the last two of which both debuted on the Billboard Charts at No.1, who’s to say he needs a social platform at all. It was fun while it lasted. –Dominique Scott
