Chief Keef's "Party In The USA" Vine

When Chief Keef was dropped by Interscope last month the collective shoulders of hip-hop shrugged and the career of a kid that was once the face of Chicago’s drill music looked like it was over. Flash forward to today and Sosa has done his best Gucci Mane impersonation and dropped six mixtapes, five solo and one with Guwop himself since not being contracted.

Does this mean that Chief Keef can function and sustain as an independent artist? That’s a tricky question. Depends on his quality of work and staying out of trouble. But can Chief Keef’s musical freedom provide a resurgence? Of course.

Let’s examine Sosa’s stats over the past year up until being escorted off of Interscope’s roster. After Finally Rich arrived in December of 2012, we hit a Sosa drought until the release of Bang Pt. 2 and Almighty So. Neither of which spawned radio singles, nor clicked as well as Back from the Dead or his major label debut.

After those two mixtapes, it was quiet on the Chief Keef front. An assist on a Young Chop single here, his own there, then a slice from Iovine’s payroll. And what does that give us? A downpour of Sosa songs.
