In the latest episode of the “Where I’m From” documentary series, produced by JAY Z’s Life+Times and vitaminwater, we get to take an in-depth look into the life of SZA. The Top Dawg Entertainment songstress is shown getting support from a fellow new member to the camp, Isaiah Rashad, before hitting the stage at the Made in America music festival in Los Angeles. She then goes into an explanation of what got her on the track to music.

Born an awkward, shy child in St. Louis, MO, SZA claims to never really have had an extraordinary social experience in school and only did well to show everyone “I’m not stupid, I just don’t want to do this.” Raised by a ballerina mother she gained an appreciation for performance early but her older brother is the one that “Joe Jacksoned” her and guided her into the direction of music.

SZA is also shown fighting with her trademark natural hair just to give everyone an idea of the kind of maintenance it takes to keep up the look that natural appreciators everywhere have come to love and connect to her. To hear more of SZAs interesting takes on the importance of self motivation and self discipline check out the full video on the next page.
