Shortly after premiering his new single “I,” Kendrick Lamar made his way to Power 106 to talk about the record. Packed with an inspirational message, regardless of the content K. Dot believes there is an aspect for anyone to connect with it.

I think music is universal,” Kendrick told Big Boy. “It’s an expression. No matter how it comes across, as long as it always remains you, that’s how they’re gonna respect it and they’re gonna have a connection with it.”

Sampling The Isley Brothers’ “That Lady,” the Compton MC spoke on how he received Ronald Isley’s go-ahead. “I got a chance to meet him and even got him on the ad libs for the record. You can hear him,” he said.

During their conversation, Kendrick told Big Boy that his parents love the single and the upcoming album already has seven records complete. Being highly selective on what makes the cut, there are tracks we may never here as he will keep all his music in his own personal vault.

“I record a bunch of ideas and I really just sit and live with them until I feel like they got a potential of being a 10,” he said. “Those be the keepers.”
