Aside from some people’s discomfort with Zendaya Coleman being cast to portray Aaliyah in a forthcoming biopic, an even bigger problem has come up. According to TMZ, Aaliyah’s family are fighting the film from happening at all.

The late singer’s uncle and former manger, Barry Hankerson, told TMZ that the family was never notified about the creation of the film in the first place. Part of the family’s strategy is to keep Lifetime, the network behind the film, from gaining access to any of Aaliyah’s music. Given that the film will focus on her music career, it’s hard to imagine this not being a serious issue.

The family also feels that a television premiere is too small for someone with the legacy of Aaliyah. Perhaps a bigger, theatrical version could be in the works if this film doesn’t work out.

They’ve hired an attorney and plan to do all they can to block the film’s creation.

Sorry but this is not working! She will NOT be playing Aaliyah and that is final! Enough of us do not want this “kid” in it we have spoken out so it will not happen! PLUS Aaliyah’s family is on the attack against “Lifetime” … vowing to stop production on her biopic!
