For the latest segment of his “The TRUTH” series, the OG Elliott Wilson hosted a live panel of hip-hop aficionados to discuss the current state of hip-hop. Joining YN, we heard from our very own Karen Civil, Troy Ave’s manager Hovain, theSTASHED’s Kazeem Famuyide, RealTalkNY’s Nigel D, and popular writer Jas Fly for a great discussion, with good insight on our culture.

They kicked off the discussion with what album is currently the hottest of the year and while YG seemed to be the fan favorite, Hovain made sure we knew about the high-quality album Troy Ave delivered with New York Love Story. Nigel brought HS87’s We The Plug to the forefront and Kaz acknowledged that ScHoolboy Q’s Oxymoron “won by default” and certainly owned the first quarter of 2014.

The panel went on to talk about Chris Brown’s hit record “Loyal” and how it’s currently running the airwaves. They all acknowledged that as long as Breezy stays out of trouble, it’s his for the taking. Hovain hyped up a brand new remix to Troy Ave’s hit “Your Style”, that should be out in a few days at this point. While he didn’t disclose who was on there, Hovain said this remix will be “big”.

It was also acknowledged by pretty much everyone that Drake is currently on top of the game and there’s virtually no debate. They also talked about which artists aren’t getting enough attention, how the dynamic of the internet has hurt the release of music, what albums they’re looking forward to, and a ton more.
