With Nas’ Illmatic turning 20 this year, there’s been a lot of hip-hop’s biggest names sitting down for interviews and running different events to show their appreciation for the classic album. Today, we heard from the one and only Dame Dash who recently sat down with BET to reflect on the powerful and important career Nas has had.

Noting that he was an icon and a legend, Dame acknowledges that Nas’ rebelliousness made him as important to hip-hop as the next man. He brought up the legendary beef between Jay and Nas and during his sitdown, Dame called Nas a “warrior” for being the first one to rattle Roc-a-Fella’s cage and said that he couldn’t speak to Jay for 2 weeks after Nas came at them. Yikes. All in all, Dame sees Nas as one of the most important people our culture has ever birthed.
