In an interview with Rolling Stone, Elton John brought up how he’s always wanted to incorporate hip-hop music into his work. He was a part of the large ensemble of artists on Kanye West’s “All of the Lights” and even had studio time scheduled with Eminem that was unfortunately canceled due to it being the same day that Proof passed away.

“I’d love to,” said John when asked about incorporating hip hop into his music. “I just don’t know how to do it. I do love electronica. So, for me, I’d have to work with someone who knows about it, like a Pharrell or a Kanye, who I respect tremendously. I’d love to do that. It’s just a matter of when and where and, should I do it, the mood that I’m in. You can never tell. It’s happenstance and luck, basically.”

John goes on to speak on how “you never can knock anybody else’s type of music until you try it” and how he just doesn’t know where to start when it comes to making hip hop records. This is when he took the opportunity to applaud Kanye West and compare where the rapper’s career is now compared to where his was in the 1970’s.
