SABRINA ANTOINETTE - Lois Lane Single Cover KKXBB

Sabrina Antoinette is a Texas fire cracker bringing her own experiences to the forefront of her songwriting. Her impeccable fashion sense has landed her as a new fixture in L.A.’s fashion scene contributing to designs for sunglass designer Ivory Masson with plans to do more. Sabrina’s fairy tale story to becoming signed has allowed her to become a sponge for the last three and half years working with the entire CBE camp. She has had the opportunity to dissect each artist’s sound and style, like Sevyn Streeter, to help her forge her own. “We’ve been doing artist development and now it’s just that time for me to come out,” she said. “I’ve been taught some amazing things that I wouldn’t have ever got to learn at any other camp.”

Now, the Italian rockstar is ready to break out with her debut EP Kiss Kiss x Bang Bang due out late January or early February.  Find out how a chance encounter at a Houston club landed Sabrina a coveted spot on Chris Brown’s label and watch the behind-the-scenes footage for her single “Lois Lane” after the jump. – Alley Olivier

So, how would you describe Sabrina Antoinette to a new listener?

Sabrina Antoinette: My sound is a little like rock, poppy vibe. I’ve been vibing out lately. It feels really good. I’ve learned a lot about myself and my relationship. It’s got a lot of love in there – dealing with long distance relationships and just dealing with myself as a creative person so I’m really excited about that.

What are some things you’ve learned about yourself?

Sabrina Antoinette: I’ve learned that I’m very impatient and to stay humble. Stay humbled because I’ve been very, very spoiled and I’ve learned to love myself. I didn’t for a long time and I’ve learned that it’s ok to love yourself and it’s ok to be happy. That process is nice and I’m in a happy, happy place.

Are you still in a relationship?

Sabrina Antoinette: Yes, still in it. I definitely express that through my songs, I talk in third person at times but it’s a lot in life. You go through life and then you fall in love.

Would you say your boyfriend was a muse for any of your songs?

Sabrina Antoinette: No, just my life is. Whatever mood I am in that day.

What’s the story behind your sign to Chris Brown’s label?

Sabrina Antoinette: Actually, I was in Texas and I had been very, very stressed out from a trip I had just had. I told three of my girlfriends that I wanted to go out, let’s just go and have some fun. So, we went out and I remember the club was empty and all of a sudden within five minutes it was packed. I went to the bar to get a drink and me and Chris were in the same VIP section but I still didn’t even know he was there. He touches my arm and I turn around and I’m like ‘oh shit it’s Chris Brown’ and he’s like ‘hey, what do you do?’ and I’m like ‘I sing and write songs’ and he’s like ‘don’t leave here without giving me your info.’ And I’m like ‘alright, whatever’ then I walked off because I thought he was just hitting on me.  I had worked in radio before so I have been around artists, so I was just like whatever. At the end of the night I had to go close out my tab and he came to me and said ‘hey I was really serious where’s your phone’  and then he puts his number in it and I left. Literally the next day he called me, he was on his way to the airport, and he said ‘hey its Chris, I just sent you my email so go ahead and send me some songs.’ So I sent him like two songs and two days go by and I didn’t hear anything from him, of course I thought my life was over. Then he text me and says ‘let’s work’ and that’s all he said.

Have you gotten a chance to talk to Chris Brown since he’s left rehab?

Sabrina Antoinette: Honestly, I’ve just been so busy getting this EP together and this artwork everyone’s just really, really focused I haven’t gotten a chance.

What are some lessons that you’ve learned so far that have really stuck with you?

Sabrina Antoinette: Something that I’ve learned from Chris and Sevyn is to trust your first instinct. Its definitely conveyed to me whenever I go into the studio. Just trust your first instinct because that’s usually your best. And patience, I’ve learned patience, I was so impatient. I’m like ‘I’m a rock star, I’m ready lets go.’ I’m so glad I learned that and gave a little bit.

How has your sign influenced your music?

Sabrina Antoinette: I have more variety now because I was in a room so long with these R&B singers and rappers and I come from Houston and I used to write little rap hooks for Houston artists but I definitely have a range of sounds now. I cannot do those runs that they be doing with their voice but I can do something else. Just the fact that I can’t do something doesn’t mean I can’t alter it and I had to learn that. So I’ve definitely taken in an R&B sound and some days I just want to be R&B but my rock still comes out and I’ve learned its ok to incorporate all of that.

Describe your new single, “Lois Lane.”

Sabrina Antoinette: I literally wrote that while being stressed. I was so stressed out that day and I went in the studio with my friend and the song is literally about not being stressed and chilling, just fuck it. It’s going to be a good day, the sun is out and just let it all go. Definitely like sunny L.A., fuck the bullshit I just need to sit back. Literally that’s what the song is: fuck the bullshit.

What can we expect from “Kiss Kiss x Bang Bang”

Sabrina Antoinette: I’ve titled the EP Kiss Kiss x Bang Bang because I’m sweet but not that sweet. I’m an Italian from Texas, my family rides Harley’s but love is still in my heart. There’s both sides of me and I think a lot of us have that as strong women. We’re sweet but don’t push us so that’s why I had to do the EP that way.
