After being considered the graffiti artist’s holy grail, 5Pointz has been painted white overnight before the owners convert the building into luxury condos. The iconic Long Island City shrine has served as a constant head nod to New York’s ever present graffiti culture.

“5Pointz is the world’s largest display of graffiti art, and it’s a global social hub,” Eric Felisbret, the author of Graffiti New York, told New York Magazine last month. “Now that it looks like that’s going to disappear, I’m not sure where the movement’s going to go.”

There has been movement to prevent these measures but sadly it appears any thoughts of preserving this art have officially been silenced. – Alley Olivier
