Detroit Woman Renisha McBride Shot To Death While Seeking Help After Car Accident

On (Nov 2), 19-year-old Renisha McBride was shot and killed while searching for help after a car accident.

Around 2:30 am, with a dead cellphone, McBride went to find help in a predominantly white Detroit area. Dearborn Heights where the accident occurred.

While McBride was searching for help she knocked on the door of a Dearborn resident who refused to help her. McBride chose to leave but was brutally shot in the back of the head and killed instantly. The resident justified shooting McBride as self defense because they believed she was an “intruder.” Detroit is a “Stand Your Ground” state. The family of McBride believes she was racially profiled.

According to the Detroit News, the family of McBride is outraged. Renisha McBride has always been known as a hardworking, soft-spoken women according to her aunt, Bernita Spinks.

“He shot her in the head … for what? For knocking on his door,” Spinks told the Detroit News, “There was no window broken. My niece didn’t bother anyone. She went looking for help and now she’s dead.”

Few details have surfaced regarding the suspect. Many are speculating that the police are protecting the shooter by not releasing their name to the public. A warrant has officially been released for her killer. – Shanae Hatchett
