Jhené Aiko sat down for a short interview with Elliot Wilson to talk about working with Drake and more. Aiko spoke about her contribution to Drake’s “From Time”, which was completely different from what was on Take Care and drew more from her personal life.

“He’s very honest in his music, and I wanted to just do the same thing with, you know, this song,” said Aiko during the segment of The Truth. “But, I didn’t want it to be, like, me telling my story–it wasn’t for my project–and what I ended up writing to it was like super, super personal so I just wanted to keep it more open and I really wanted it to be something he liked.”

Aiko also described how she linked up with Childish Gambino for “Bed Peace,” her latest single. “Well, I wrote the song, recorded it, and I knew that I wanted a feature on there and I sent it to a lot of people, everyone liked it, but [Chilish Gambino] was the only person that sent back a verse, like, the next day I sent it to them, and I loved his verse. I hadn’t named the song yet and I’ve always been obsessed with, like, John Lennon and Yoko and what they stand for and their relationship… So when I talked to Childish Gambino about it, or Donald, I explained it to him. ‘That means, basically, if we do this song, you have to be John Lennon to my Yoko Ono.'”

Aiko went on to give a short preview of her upcoming EP, Sail Out, which will include seven tracks with features from Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul and more and will be made availale to the public on Nov. 12. –Keith Reid-Cleveland
