Mark Lee, CEO of Barneys, issued a public apology to Jay Z for the recent racial profiling scandal that occurred in New York and how it’s affected both his reputation and that of the Shawn Carter Foundation.

“We deeply regret that these recent events have distracted from the great work of the Sean Carter Foundation, and we offer our sincere apologies to Mister Carter,” said Lee, according to the New York Post.

There’s been a lot of spotlight on Jay Z lately following what are considered to have been two cases of racial profiling in a New York Barney’s. On two separate occasions, two African-American patrons–Trayon Christian and Kayla Phillips–were stopped by authorities due to speculation of theft or credit card fraud after showing proof of purchase and their identities. One of the two was then arrested this past week.

Following this instance, public outcry called for a boycott of Barneys, which included the “A New York Holiday” collection that Jay was working on in partnership with the company. The collection, set to drop next month, is supposed to include products from Balmain and Balenciaga.

Jay recently released a public statement saying that he wouldn’t pull out of the deal, due to the major benefits that it could have, through the use of the Shawn Carter Foundation, by providing scholarships to those who need them the most, amongst other reasons.

Mark Lee and Rev. Al Sharpton met for an hour to discuss racial profiling as a whole and its impacts on society. “Moving forward there is a broader issue that needs to be addressed and Barneys New York is committed to be part of the solution.”– Keith Reid-Cleveland
