karen-civil-barneys-teeWithin a two-day period Barneys New York has been accused of two racial discrimination charges.

The most recent instance involved Queens student Trayon Christian, who was allegedly detained and falsely accused of using a fraudulent credit card while purchasing a $349 Salvatore Ferragamo belt. Earlier this year, 21-year-old, Kayla Phillips that was interrogated after purchasing a Celine bag.

These two allegations has caused an outrage in the African American community urging rapper Jay Z to abandon his upcoming holiday collection with the upscale store.

Longtime Jay Z fan Derick Bowers started a petition on Change.org asking the Brooklyn native to “withdraw his support from Barneys New York because of this discrimination.”

“Barneys lacks any connection with the black and hip-hop community,” Bowers states. “And without his vast wealth and brand power, they would see him the same as they see Trayon Christian. Jay Z should be appalled by Barneys actions, and withdraw all support from them.”

Along with his petition, Bowers has created a t-shirt in response to Barney’s discrimination that reads, “Barneys New Slaves.” This $25 tee is in reference to Kanye West’s latest track, “New Slaves,” a track from Yeezus that discusses racism.
