Janelle-Monae-Uptown-Karen-CivilJanelle Monae isn’t just another transparent artist. Her mission: “It is my goal to mislead you into believing one thing,” she said in her cover interview with Uptown Magazine.

She keeps an air of mystery about her that she isn’t looking to be rid of anytime soon. The Electric Lady plays coy when answering questions.

“Interviews are like marriages sometimes, and things become old,” she says. “It’s time to spruce up this sex life! We need to try some new things. I am always asked, ‘Why do you wear that tuxedo?’ or, ‘We know that your parents wore uniforms, is that why you wear a uniform?’”

As far as her sexuality goes, Janelle coolly replied that she only dates “androids” and it could have easily been one of her clones coming out to fight – whatever that means.

Now that she has released her sophomore album, Monae is no longer concerned with record sales. “I feel like this music is from God and I am the pastor that does not need a mega-church,” she explains. “I am fine with my 200-seat church, as long as the people that need it come and get inspired. I know what I could do to be amongst the popular crowd.”

The fierce songstress is aiming to use her music to change the world and is on the lookout for other mainstream pop artists stealing her ideas. Head to Uptown to get the full scoop. – Alley Olivier
