TLC-crystal-selene-jones-karen-civilEven the truest of TLC fans were shocked to find that Chilli was technically not an original member of the 90s girl group. The original “C,” Crystal Selene Jones, got the boot after auditioning in front of LA Reid and Pebbles alongside T-Boz and Left Eye – or so the movie wants us to believe.

Crystal stopped by Atlanta radio station, V-103 with her former manager Ian Burke to set the story straight: Pebbles cut her from the trio after she refused to sign the contracts without letting her mother look them over.

“So we’re sitting there and I’m going through the paperwork and it’s lengthy and I didn’t understand anything,” Crystal explained. “So I turned and looked at Pebbles and I said, ‘Can I take it home and have my mom take a look at it because I really don’t understand what I’m reading?’ She said, ‘No! Absolutely not!’ So I didn’t sign it.”

Crystal was disappointed in how she was depicted in the made-for-TV film, while Burke pointed out that the movie left a lot of important details out. “The whole way the girls got together was totally fictitious. That was the main thing that stood out to me,” he said. “A lot of people, a lot of key essential people, not just essential to the movie but essential to the Atlanta music scene, were left out.”

Both Ian and Crystal feel that to adequately tell the real TLC story a two-hour VH1 biopic simply wasn’t enough. “I honestly feel like it should have been like they did the Jacksons or the Temptations, a two-day mini-story, because of the fact that things were left out,” Ian said.

Crystal has yet confirm on whether or not she will be suing due to how she was depicted in the movie, but she has confirmed that she is in the process of completing her upcoming tell-all book, TLC My Story: The Awakening Of A Shattered Dream.
