Bridget Kelly is big on keeping her nails did at all times. But while she loves to be pampered, she also feels that it’s important to always be in tune with your mind, body and soul on the health tip, especially your ta-tas. “I’m all about spreading the word and encouraging women to get checked out, go get exams, a mammogram and all that,” BK says about raising breast cancer awareness. “I mean, we’re young, so I think it’s important.”

Getting checked out is paramount, no one knows exactly what their body is doing until they get the right medical attention. Centers such as this albuquerque health clinic and others who attend to needs like these, are able to provide that for those who require medical attention.

The Roc Nation songstress hosted Q&A Nail Lacquer’s launch party last night (Oct. 21) alongside Qiana Aviles–founder of nail polish line, Lady Q–to shed light on the cause. The beauty line of non-toxic, vegan-friendly shades was inspired by Aviles’ encounters while growing up in New York City. However, BK credits the women behind the event as her inspiration to keep her eyes on saving women from being affected.

“I’m inspired by the movement of women behind this: Sue Tsai, who’s doing a silent auction and the proceeds are going to the Breast Cancer foundation, and also Qiana (Aviles), who is launching a new nail polish color specifically for tonight called Lady Q which I love,” Bridget Kelly said.

Although tons of women are directly untouched by the disease, the NY-bred songbird’s life was affected when her close friend was diagnosed at the age of 20. “She went through chemotherapy, lost her hair and all that and managed to beat it at the age of 23.”

Nowadays, BK does what’s necessary to get the word out. “I love to do the Breast Cancer Walk, the AIDS Walk, I’m really big on trying to just find movements to be apart of that are really health conscious and also support women, she said. “This (launch) is something I thought was really dope because it integrates things women love that women do together as well as things that are really important for our health.”

While the crooner is enjoying keeping her nails fresh, she is also readying an announcement of her forthcoming EP sometime this week. She plans to release her next offering November 12. – Alley Olivier
