Kanye West’s appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live Wednesday evening made for uncomfortably fascinating television, perhaps because it was so very different from what we’ve been trained to expect from our entertainers. West, whose knees were shaking as he took a spot opposite the comedian he’d hilariously lambasted on Twitter last month, acknowledged that the so-called “feud” that went down between him and Kimmel over a spoof of his BBC interview had been very “high school,” but explained that he’d felt compelled to act since he knew Kimmel personally.

“When I saw the skit, which I didn’t even watch all the way through because I didn’t want be infuriated, I said, ‘Look, well I know you,'” West said. “And so a combination of me knowing you, but also me not knowing the person who put, you know, a bad headline on the cover of InTouch, and me not knowing this person, I was like, ‘Well this is the one person I know!'”

West then delivered the very lengthy, meandering, and dynamic interview that has become his signature, his voice occasionally swelling to an impassioned shout as he shared his thoughts on classism, celebrity, and the media. Here’s a rundown of the important points.

1. Kanye is not here for publicity stunts.
“I’ve never done a publicity stunt in my life,” West insisted. “Anytime I went up and spoke my mind, whether it put my career in jeopardy or whatever someone so-called said, it was always what I thought was the truth … I don’t follow rules of celebrity, or what their publicist tells them to say, so, you know, I don’t do publicity stunts. Period.”

2. Kanye doesn’t consider himself a rapper.
“I wouldn’t even say I’m a rapper,” West mused as he discussed how his celebrity has conflicted with his desire to change things. “I’d say I’m more of a messenger than a rapper.I’d say I’m more of a messenger than a rapper.”

3. Kanye is just about his family and his art.
“I could care less about any of these cameras, in all honesty,” West stated. “I care about my family, I care about protecting my girl, I care about protecting my baby, and protecting my ideas and my dreams, and you know, that’s the reason why I went so crazy.”

4. He’s not cocky, he’s just honest.
“I’m totally weird, I’m totally honest, and I’m totally inappropriate sometimes, and the thing is, for me to say I wasn’t a genius, I would just be lying to you and to myself.”

5. West is upset Kim Kardashian isn’t going to be on the Walk of Fame.
“It’s like people are so, so dated and not modern. It’s like no way that Kim Kardashian shouldn’t have a star on the Walk of Fame. It’s like, we think with these old concepts and for me it’s like, I’m just gonna give y’all the truth and y’all are going to learn to love it … You’re going to love me, you’re going to hate me, but I’m going to be me.”

6. He felt like he was “cracking media” when he attacked Kimmel via Twitter.
“I think media does everything it can to break creatives, to break artists, to break spirits. And I do everything I can to break media,” West noted.

7. He won’t let the “leather jogging pant” go.
West was not impressed by the tiny leather jogging pants Kimmel handed him as a gift for Nori, perhaps because Kimmel joked that they’d get sweaty. “Fashion isn’t always practical,” West opined. “It’s more about emotion, it’s more about swag.”

8. He has some words for the paparazzi.
“It’s not safe for you in this zoo. Never think that I’m not from Chicago for one second,” Kanye warned. “And that you can walk up and disrespect me and my family constantly.”

9. He thinks classism is the new racism, particularly with regards to fashion.
“It’s snobbery, and I’m not into all that snobbery,” an incensed West stated. “Because you know, we have the loudest voice. We have the loudest communication. And you know, all we want to do is awesome stuff. All we want is a real shot.”

Well, Kanyee has a lot to say, doesn’t he? Kudos to Jimmy Kimmel for giving him a platform to express himself. Now we can draw our own conclusions instead of taking the media’s word and slanted opinions. I for one, think there is a great deal of creative genius in him, he just needs to work on humility and ego..
