When you think Seattle, you probably think Seahawks, Sir Mix-A-Lot, maybe even Grey’s Anatomy; but do you think Macklemore? If you didn’t at first, you will after this interview. Hit the jump below to watch

You may know Seattle-born Rapper Macklemore for lots of reasons, but two of his greatest achievements are being the “Unsigned Hype” of the Source Magazine and being included in the 2012 XXL Freshman Class. Recently, Macklemore and Producer Ryan Lewis sat down with GoodFellaMedia.com to have a talk that spanned a variety of topics. He is currently preparing for the release of “The Heist;” his 6th release which should reach us in October. He states one of the reasons why he is so successful; he credits his die-hard fans.

” That’s our fan base… it’s people that connect with it on that level. That’s why we are here in New York right now is because of that fan base! It’s not because of industry buzz, it’s not because of blogs necessarily, it’s not because of a label, it’s because of a fan base that is dedicated on that level.”

He also shared what being from Seattle means to him, the legacy it carries, and how it feels to be leading that new movement.

“There’s a great scene of people. There’s Sir-Mix-A-Lot, there’s Blue Scholars who came before us in terms of a new wave of music — Shabazz Palaces, THEESatisfaction, — The list can go on and on, but we are at the moment at the forefront.”
