Rosa Acosta can play a bunch of different roles. Dancer (she started ballet at the age of four at the Centro de la Cultura in Santiago, Dominican Republic and graduated with honors from the ICA and the Ballet School of Norma Garcia), model (obviously), and fitness-extraordinaire. Another role she plays –literally– is co-star of HOT97’s newest show, Los Blancos, a drama, action-packed web series where she plays Sophia Blanco alongside co-star Shakur Sozahdah, who plays the role of Sophia’s sister, Yasmine Blanco. The story is based on two sisters taking over the family cocaine business in a male-dominated trade after their father died. Throughout the series, both Sophia and Yasmine encounter various roadblocks with the boys and end up in some deep trouble, as well as causing some trouble themselves. Directed by Yolande Geralds, the series premieres on HOT 97 TV every Wednesday at noon. KarenCivil.com caught up with the multi-talented Acosta last week to speak with her regarding the series, her Dominican roots, and her goals of becoming a future chef. Check out the rest of the interview after the jump.

Interview by Michael Nguyen.

How was the HOT97 party last night [Tuesday]?
It was great. I’m really excited to be a part of this project. Los Blancos is the first series they launched on HOT97 TV. We’re so excited that they’re bringing this project to life. We had a lot of support and it was just a great night.

How did you originally get put onto this project?
While this was a baby project –just an idea– I sat down with the creators and they created the character of Sophia and thought I would be great for it. From there, everything just happened. We’ve been shooting ever since and today they launched the first episode.

How was the experience going through this entire process of shooting Los Blancos?
It was great. I had the opportunity to work with so many professionals. I got to work with Yolande Geralds. She also shot the music video I was in with Omarion. We connected on this project and its been great. The next few weeks are going to be crazy. Every episode is going to get more intense.

How was it developing the chemistry with your co-star, Shakur?
It was great. Everybody gets along really well. We all get along behind-the-scenes and that makes everything easier. When you have a team you feel comfortable with, it makes the project easier and more fun to work with.

Can you briefly summarize your character, Sophia?
She’s the youngest of the two sisters. She is a wild child. Typical baby of the house, a little spoiled because she does whatever she wants whenever she wants. She’s very passionate and loyal to her family. The only thing she cares about is family and business. I think people can relate to her.

Are there certain aspects of Sophia’s life that you can relate to?
No. [Laughs] With these girls, everyday they engage in new situations. I don’t think there’s too many situations where I can relate to but I’m happy to play the role and enjoy this totally different life.

Los Blancos depicts a lot of real-life situations. How does this series teach people how to deal with those issues?
The human part of this show is about being loyal to your family as well as showing you the impact of your family and loving the people in your life and dealing with certain situations. This is just a point of view. When you see this, you’ll see some of their own life situations in the series. It’s more about entertaining than teaching a lesson but people can still relate to it.

The series also has a lot to do with females taking charge and leading the way. Can you elaborate on that?
This is the story of two girls who took over the family business after their father died. That world is dominated by guys. It was supposed to be the same thing but from the perspective of females leading and taking over. This is something that’s happening in any other aspect. Every day you see more girls doing things they weren’t doing back in the day. I think girls are going to like it because it gives them that feeling of “Yes, I can do it,” and guys will like it too because they to see a girl being in charge.

Do you feel like you’re in that position of being a role model to females?

Yes, definitely. Not only am I independent, I’m also a provider for my family. I totally see myself as a leader. I think every girl should feel empowered to be something. To take charge of their life and if you have an idea, execute on it.

Another important aspect in the series is family; It’s all about representing the family name. What does family means to you?
Everything. I was born and raised in the Dominican Republic. We have a special connection with our family. There’s something that we have in regards to our relationship with our family that is going to be different from America. You’re also going to see some of that in the show because the characters are Columbian. You’re going to see how passionate they are about their families. I feel like I can relate to that part because to me, my family is everything.

Do you think it was hard to adapt from the Dominican culture to the American culture?
No. Not at all. Culture is something you’ll always have with you. Of course you adapt to certain things, but you never lose it. It’s about learning how to be a chameleon and understand not everyone is the same. I think I carry my culture proudly. I don’t think I have to lose anything to blend in here.

And you were raised as a dancer and then branched out into modeling, fitness and acting. Do you still manage to balance those four on a regular basis?
Oh yeah. I’ll keep adding more stuff. [Laughs] I think I’m great at multi-tasking. You guys are going to see a lot more Rosa Acosta.

And then you want to add future chef to that list?
I want to be good at cooking. [Laughs] I’m not bad at all. All my friends can tell you I’m really good at it. I do it with love, and it tastes great.
