Tuesday night, New York’s elite media figures and music lovers were called to Santos Party House in the name of budding talent as BET Music Matters held their monthly showcase that featured artist Deon Young. With the Remy V flowing, DJ Lyve (of BET’s 106 & Park) kept everyone in the mood for great hip-hop and R&B by spinning current hits and classic jams as the audience waited in anticipation for the headlining act.

Kicking off his set with “Blackin’ Out” (his version of Ca$h Out‘s “Cashin’ Out” – see the official video here!), Deon Young’s star power was on ten as he embraced his hometown crowd – pointing out that he hadn’t performed in his city all year, so he was certainly looking forward to changing that. As he pulled out songs from his 2011 online release, “For The Love“, Deon wooed the ladies with the underground hit “Just Another Love Song” and “Applause”. Throughout the night, his confidence was something most wouldn’t see from a nineteen year old performer but with the team he has behind him, Deon’s got the chops to be quite sure of himself. Wrapping up his awesome set, Deon paused for a moment to acknowledge a fan who was celebrating a birthday and happily sang her a smooth rendition of The Birthday Song. Capping the night off with his new single “Party Life”, Deon’s falsetto was on full display and it is truly plain to see why this young talent is signed to a label like Epic Records. Before he left the stage for the night, Deon gave a heartfelt acknowledgement to his new label and Sylvia Rhone, whose imprint he was signed to after she was blown away by his “For The Love” mixtape. Sylvia and Epic definitely have something in this budding star and we can’t wait to hear more from Deon Young when he drops his next mixtape, Forever Young.
