Mixtape: Ron Gerald – The Side Effects Of Love

The Internet has made people lazy. And by people, I’m talking about me. Whenever I receive an e-mail about listening to a new album/mixtape from an “unknown” artist, I sometimes cringe. Now, when said project has a stream available, it eliminates about 90 percent of the project of downloading, extracting, filing and installing to iTunes. Take for example and Ron Gerald and his mixtape The Side Effects Of Love.

For the most part, actually, for the entirety, the vibe of the tape is slow (i.e. no awkwardly forced “club” tracks). This allows for the listener to take in each song. What’s intriguing about the concept of each entry is that they eventually equate to a full length story. If you’re into the whole love thing – the good and bad parts – the ups and downs are told from track one to track 12. There’s infidelity, honesty, ignorance and everything in between.

You know, just like any other normal, healthy American relationship.
