To be honest, I was ignorant to who Mac Dre was before I got to college outside of one, possibly two songs. I credit the people I met from the Bay Area for putting me on to game and while I’m still not a huge fan of the guy or his work, I can respect what he did for Hip-Hop out west. His death was literally a punch in the gut to those who followed his music, one which is still felt to this day.

As an update on the proceedings surround his murder, a judge upheld the life sentence verdict handed to a man who allegedly killed two men who were supposedly the masterminds behind the slaying of Mac Dre. It’s confusing at first, but allow it to marinate for a few moments. It’ll come to you.

Jason Mathis and rapper Andre “Mac Minister” Dow were sentenced to life in prison in July of 2008, for allegedly killing Kansas City rapper Anthony “Fat Tone” Watkins and his partner Jermaine “Cowboy” Akins.

Mathis was accused of carrying out the slayings with Mac Minister.

Prosecutors said the pair used AK-47s on their victims, in remote construction area on the outskirts of Las Vegas in 2005.

Watkins and Akins were lured to Las Vegas by unidentified parties, on a promise that they would get a chance to network and meet with Snoop Dogg, for a possible record deal.

Like any murder, there’s still more questions than answers. For those unaware how all parties tie into each other. Mac Dre was murdered in 2004 on the U.S. 71 highway after finishing a performance in Kansas City that weekend.
