Luther Campbell Places Fourth In Miami Mayor Election

Hold on, here’s my late pass.

I’ve been doing a semi suitable job keeping up with Luther Campbell’s bid to become the next mayor of Miami. He was already the unofficial king of the city, but begun to cement his legacy in recent years by becoming more and more of a staple in the community. Unfortunately, his foray into politics came up short as he placed fourth in the ballots. And no, it had nothing to do with the jorts in the picture.

In last night’s (May 24) special vote for the mayor’s seat in Miami-Dade County, Campbell faced insurmountable odds. The rapper-turned-politician failed to garner enough votes to replace ousted Republican mayor Carlos Alvarez who was pushed out of office in March.

Making a fourth place finish with just 11% of the total vote tally, Uncle Luke’s platform of improving the community and taxing strippers for their tips didn’t resonate with Miami voters. Frontrunner Julio Robaina and Carlos Gimenez will face off in a June 28 runoff election to claim the mayor’s chair. It should be noted that both men are former elected officials.
