I’ve only been on The ILLZ for the past month or so. It was one of those instances where you see a few people mentioning how dope an artist is, but I never really took the time to find out for myself. Chalk it up to my own laziness, I suppose. After curing that ailment, his latest project – In Between Video Series – has been on repeat for a minute now. It’s one of those releases you come home and have a drink to or smoke to or both if the day was that bad. The music isn’t depressing, it just sheds light on the more realistic parts of life. Yeah, that’s about the best way to describe it.

Even still, with the shelf life of music nowadays, a month old project is considered ancient to the greedy public. They’ll forget about you almost as quickly as they embraced you. The gift and the curse that is the rap game. This is exactly why the Jersey native is preparing the release of his next project, Let It Fall: The Pursuit LP 1.5. Scheduled to drop sometime in November, the first single is “Cover Me (I’m Going In).” The song samples the La Roux record “In For The Kill.” ILLZ’s version encompasses a slightly darker feel, but still presents itself as a quality record.

It’s one of those songs artists make when realizing they’re on the verge of something special, but they still take time out to acknowledge those who served as hurdles during their road to success. Motivational rap, we can all clap for that. Right?
