J. Cole Is A ‘Rising Icon’

I was out last night when this came on, but due to the world’s greatest VCR/TiVo – Twitter – it’s like I saw the entire thing. Weeks away from the release of his (still) untitled debut album, the house that Bob Johnson built caught up with J. Cole as he gives a glimpse into what life is like for a budding superstar on “Rising Icons.”

During the near 20 minute clip, Cole runs through two of his more well known records “Who Dat” and “Lights Please” as well as the newer (and a favorite of mine) “It Won’t Be Long.” In between those performances, Cole gives the 4-1-1 behind the inspiration of his rhyme scheme, his relationship with Jay-Z and how his mother and their bi-racial background influenced his love of music and even showcases his on-the-court basketball skills.

He’s not too bad either.

  4. yo I agree fully that J.cole is a rising icon.He got flow and the the swag of a real hip hop artist.I felt the same way about Drake though and I for was disapointed by his album in full.I like the hard hitting punchlines from ransom and his other mixtape freestyles.Lets see if J.cole can bring back my feeling that there is still hope for hip hop.
